Ever wondered what our fine art portraits look like, start to finish?

Sometimes it’s hard to image how we get arrive at our finished artwork from a fine art session. It’s true, you can’t exactly bring your horse into a photo studio! That’s why we’ve carefully designed the easiest, most stress-free experience for your horse (and you!) that still delivers the top notch artwork you’ve been dreaming of.

The Setup…

Our goal is always easy when it comes to sessions. We want this to be a laidback, no-big-deal kind of day for your horse. We don’t use any artificial light and much of the “fine art” really comes to life later during the editing process. For white backgrounds, we are often against the side wall of your barn- I’ll have a backdrop with me for these. For black (or other darker colored backdrops), we just the inside of your barn’s aisleway in order to recreate a natural studio light.

The Moment…

Austin is at the ready creating the perfect moment for me to capture. He knows exactly what I’m seeing through the camera and the angles I need to create from my perspective (we’ve been doing this together for years now)! We will use treats, a target, or even something goofy like a stick horse or our “hay stick” to help guide your horse. Every horse is different and we tailor this to each animal’s personality and training history.

The Portrait…

Then, the magic happens! The image I capture with my camera is brought into post processing where I take care of all the details. Hair touch-ups, scab removal, background adjustments, etc. This is really where the photography meets digital art- my passion!

The Artwork…

Now, most importantly, we take this portrait and create a true piece of artwork. Something physical that you can see and cherish every day. This portrait is of my own horse, Rue, and hangs on the main wall in my bedroom where I see it every morning. Not everyone can have their horse at home, so we rate this a close second place!
