Hello,
I'm Ella- an equestrian, dog lover, and artist currently based in Salem, Oregon. Just like you, I see my animals as part of the family. Our worlds revolve around them, yet their time on this Earth with us is much too short.
My mission is to preserve these memories through vibrant, documentary style photography and custom artwork for the home.
I offer a range of full service portrait sessions for all equestrians (high school seniors, professionals, and adult amateurs alike) as well as the passionate pet parent and any animals they love. We welcome dogs, cats, birds, and all other family members.

Throughout your experience, you’ll be working with both sides of our husband + wife team! All of the planning, photography, and editing (also, the voice behind this guide and who you’ll reach via email) is Ella, while Austin is always with us the day of the session to ensure everything is running as smoothly as possible. This is key when working with multiples horses, dogs, and even cats!
If you don’t love your artwork, we’ll buy it back.
If your artwork ever fades, we’ll replace it.
If you don’t love the images we create during your session, we will refund your entire investment.

STEP ONE

What to Expect
We have designed a session experience that is highly customizable to all equestrians, pet parents, and families. This means our session experience may be different than some of the other artists you've worked with before!
I like to be able to tailor not only our time together creating your images, but also your entire experience start to finish.
Below, I've laid out a general timeline of our process so you have a better idea of what to expect from each step...
A little more about the process
After you've had a chance to read through this session guide, we can talk details and answer any questions you may have over email, phone, or in-person: whatever is best for you! The session is reserved with the payment of your session fee. Then, you'll receive a comprehensive questionnaire so that we can start planning the big day! I will help with location, outfits, timeline, and all other parts of the experience.
At the session, we focus on a fun and laid back experience - for both you and the animals. Both Austin and I have been working with animals our whole lives and are ready for anything! You won't need to worry that fido can't sit + stay or that pony gets opiniated while loitering around all that fresh grass. After the photos are taken, we'll get the animals settled and then take a moment for the humans to check out our print samples. I'll have a few pieces of wall art and an album so you can get a better idea of what you favorites are. You'll also receive the printed version of all our finishing options (frames, album swatches, etc.) so that you have these to sleep on.
After your session, there is an image reveal and design appointment where I can help you choose your favorite images and the artwork you'll be taking home. This appointment can take place in person or over zoom: again, whatever is best for you and depending on how far apart we may be. This is when you make the final decision on your artwork investment, although most people already have a pretty good idea of what exactly they want once they've checked out our samples.

Some clients opt for one style of portraiture over the other, while some choose to include both. Regardless of the type of session you decide to pursue, our time and final artwork is completely customizable. Some clients want to be photographed along side their horse(s) while other clients want their horse as the solo star of the show.

Our studio-style sessions are perfect for creating those full glam posed portraits that make the most stunning artwork.
For equines, we recreate a studio-style setting using your covered barn aisle and all natural light for the easiest possible experience for any horse. For dogs, cats, and other small animals we welcome you into our traditional home studio.
These portraits are often styled to be focused on just your horse or pet, but we can include you and other family members too. Your initial proofing gallery from a Fine Art session generally includes 15-20 images.
CREATING THE SHOWSTOPPER
THE FINE ART SESSION

Lifestyle portraits are taken outside in natural light. This is most popular for high school seniors, families, pets, and those classic "horse + rider" style photos.
Your initial proofing gallery from a Lifestyle session generally includes 60 - 80 images. Sessions can include up to 6 models total (horses, humans, dogs, etc.) If you have a larger crew, we can do that too, but we'll want to chat more about location and goals to make sure we plan accordingly!

THE LIFESTYLE SESSION
Every portrait session with our team is designed to be an all-inclusive experience that highlights everything you love most about your horse, dog, cat, and even the human members of your family!
Most Equestrian sessions take place onsite where your horse is boarded, but if you'd prefer to haul out, I have a list of horse friendly locations that I know photograph well. With dogs, we often visit a local park, but can also stay at home right in your own backyard, or travel to the coast, mountains, or more! All sessions take place using only natural light during the late afternoon hours on a sunny or overcast day.
No matter what type of images you've been dreaming of, you can always expect a fun, relaxed, and rewarding experience- for both you and your animals.

Approximately 95% of our client dogs stay on leash and safely connected to their person for the entirety of the session. Even without, having someone directing from a close distance (with a bag of cookies, of course) is common and easily handled in post processing. I am as much an editor as a photographer, so the removal of leashes, people, and other background distractions are all included in the final artwork.
Likewise, in our fine art studio portraits for equines, a specialized mini-halter makes every photo you see of a horse “wearing nothing” simply more of our behind the scenes magic! Things like mane touch ups and hiding turnout nicks and scratches are other common edits that every image receives.

Now, for the fun part!
When choosing your artwork, you will see there are two main options: albums and wall art. Depending on your space and goals for these photos, some clients may choose one over the other, or even some of both. Albums and Wall Art (both individual and as collections) include their corresponding photos as high resolution digital downloads. You can also purchase digital files a la carte.
As a reminder, you will receive the full pricing menu in person, in print, at the session. This contains further details such as each frame option for wall art and the complete selection of album finishes. You'll also be able to feel each of the options at the session, as I will have some samples with me!
